The charming and family-friendly city of Augsburg is one of the oldest cities In Germany and the third largest in Bavaria. Founded by the Romans in 15 BC, Augsburg is known for its magnificent fountains, natural beauty, grand architecture, and exquisite churches. Its cathedral, the Dom Mariä Heimsuchung built around 1000 CE, contains the oldest figurative stained-glass windows in the world. Augsburg is also home to the famous Fuggerei, the world's oldest social housing complex, and the famous Augsburg Puppenkiste (puppet theater and museum) founded in 1948.

Travel Information

Augsburg is located in Bavaria about 80 km (50 mi) from Munich and 150 km (93 mi) south of Nuremberg. The city is located at the junction of the Lech, Wertach and Singold rivers that in combination with an elaborate canal system dating to the 8th century gives Augsburg more bridges than Venice. Augsburg is easily accessible from points throughout Europe by train. Trains between Augsburg and the Munich airport run frequently (average 10/day) and take about 1.5 hours. Most visitors travel to Augsburg by train or personal car.

Conference attendees are advised to take out adequate personal insurance to cover travel, cancellation and personal effects.

Accommodations

The University of Augsburg, site of the 2026 World Conference, is easily accessible by public transportation. The organizing committee has secured discounted room rates ranging from 85-159 Euro per room per night at four hotels in easy walking distance to the main train station and tram lines. The agreements we made are for an overnight stay from 04-07th August 2026. If you want to extend your stay you should ask as soon as possible (directly at the hotel) for alternative dates to get the chance to book extra nights.
